Julius Caesar and Alchemist Essay Reflection

Ideas and Content:
My writing in both of my essays shows appropriate ideas and content because it is always extrapolates on my topic and is always easy to find the right information. My ideas all relate to the topic and the content. For my Julius Caesar essay i write about Mark Antony's traits and showed why that trait was important to Antony's role in the story and his motivation. I feel like in the Alchemist essay I went a little off topic and my hard-to-read sentences did not help my original ideas. In this way I felt I performed better on my Julius Caesar Essay.
Organization:
My organization was demonstrated in both Essays because they were both organized into paragraphs that showed strong thesis's and conclusions. For my Julius Caesar Essay my thesis was strong and reflected all the ideas i had in Mark Antony's traits and my conclusion reflected that. In my Alchemist Essay I was still pretty organized in my writing, but I had many run on sentences. Ways I could improve this were to have a more planned out rough draft or be more prepared for my Julius Caesar Essay. Also, I could have done a quick grammar check on word.
Personal Growth:
I see personal growth from my Julius Caesar from my Alchemist Essay. In the beginning of the school year I didn't know how to write an essay, but now I do and in a time limit. This has proven that I have grown personally in writing an essay.
SLR:
in my essay i used the SLR think creatively, i demonstrated this SLR by thinking creative ideas and communicating them effectively to my readers. I used my creative ideas in both of my essays by trying new ideas and using a creative way to write my essays.

Mark Antony's Motivators

Mark Antony’s Motivation

“No place will please me so, No mean of death, As here by Caesars’ side.”
Mark Antony, pg. 116. Mark Antony had numerous motives for rebelling against the conspirators, allying with Octavius Caesar, and breaking out civil war in the heart of noble Rome. But what really inspired him was his great friendship with Caesar. Many of Caesars’ allies turned on him, but Antony remained true to Caesar, staying by his side. Which is why Antony’s two motivating factors are revenge and loyalty. His revenge to the conspirators, and his loyalty to Caesar (even after he died).

One motive that drove Antony to his’ extremes was his revenge. He could not take it after noble Brutus and his conspirators thrust the dagger into Caesar’s back. Caesar had been his great friend, and now is dead, because Brutus says he was ambitious. Antony was so motivated by his death that he was furious against the conspirators. This quotation shows that he would cause a huge war just to get revenge.” Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war, that this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion, groaning for burial.” Mark Antony pg. 124. This shows Antony’s motivation by explaining how far he would go to get revenge, even explaining about a huge, yet hellish civil war that will break out. But Antony would get his revenge by convincing a gullible crowd with his sly silver tongue. “Yet Brutus says he was ambitious, And Brutus is an honorable man.” Mark Antony pg. 134. He is using these subtle hints to explain that the conspirators were not noble, and in fact they had just killed a great man because of what they thought he would’ve done. Antony is trying to rile up the crowd against Cassius and Brutus. In the end he is successful in driving out the conspirators, and convincing people to go to war against them.

But there was another motive that had pushed him so far, even to his revenge. This motive was his loyalty to Caesar. This character is motivated this way because of his friendship to Caesar. Caesar relies on Antony, and because of this Antony acts like a faithful servant to him. A quotation to prove this statement would be, “I shall remember: When Caesar says, ‘do this,’ it is perform’d.”. Mark Antony Pg. 26. This shows Antony’s loyalty by showing the audience that he would perform any task for Caesar. Which means that Caesar also trusts Antony. Through their friendship Antony also viewed Caesar as a great, honorable, and noble man. In this next quotation Antony is mourning Caesar’s death. “Thou are the ruins of the noblest man that ever lived in the tide of times.” Mark Antony Pg. 124. His loyalty to Caesar is what made him want to get their revenge on the conspirators. Antony showed his true loyalty by using his speech to steer the crowd against the conspirators. Mark Antony is a true friend to Caesar and is loyal to him even after his death.

Antony’s main conflict is to slay the conspirators and make them pay for the foul deed they have performed. What motivates him to do this is his revenge against the conspirators for assassinating Caesar, and his true loyalty that lies with him. These motivations also influenced his behavior. For example his revenge made him start a war against the conspirators because of his fury. And his loyalty made him follow Caesar and stay true to him till’ after death. In the end Antony achieved his goal by not only causing a civil war, but conquered every last one of the conspirators. He managed to do this by turning virtually all of Rome against them with his speech. His goal was certainly noble that he would mourn Caesar, But to slay all the conspirators for one man? His revenge got out of hand, but this only shows his loyalty to Caesar.

Six Word Memoir Collage

My six-word memoir is, “Lost and alone. Is there hope?” This six-word memoir represents the tragedies that the lost boy’s have been through. This is reflected in my collage by showing people through images the tragedies that the lost boys have faced, but also showing them what action they can take, and how the lost boys have strived to improve their lives and leave their past behind. For example, I show that there is hope for them by putting pictures of significant achievements in their lives, like peter’s graduation. One of the creative ways I emphasized their tragedies is by putting a news article in word, and making their tragedies a bigger font. My collage is made mostly out of pictures from the Internet, news articles, magazine clipping, and drawing. Each of my pictures was carefully chosen to reflect my six-word memoir, and the journey the boys have been through. One way I show that they can change is I have pictures showing hardships faced from both Africa and America. Another example of how I show connection between images and text is that I make sure the audience understands that the lost boys were alone, by putting pictures of racism and segregation. This is one of the challenges they had to face in America. In my collage the text and images connect with each other, because all of my images reflect my six-word memoir, or other text I have put in my collage. My collage uses mostly dark colors to show the mood of the lost boy’s sufferings and journey. My collage connects with the viewer to create empathy for the Lost Boys, so that they will fell inspired to take action, instead of just feeling sorry for them. The message I’m sending through my collage is that the lost boy’s have suffered through so much, and that they can try to leave their past behind and strive for a better future.

SlR's Reflection

Think Creatively

I thought creatively in my collage by thinking of a good way to make my collage, so that it reflects on the mood of the Lost Boys journey. I also used creativity in my collage by using pictures and text to reflect my thoughts of their journey, and making the audience empathize for them.

Reason Critically

I reasoned critically in many ways. One way was that I had to space and layer my pictures, so that important parts weren't covered and could be observed by the audience. I also had to use reasoniProxy-Connection: keep-alive
Cache-Control: max-age=0

to space my collage so that it was not too crowded.

Communicate Effectively

I communicated to the audience the story, mood, and feeling of the lost boys journey through Africa and America. I did this through pictures and text.

Live Ethically

This collage makes the viewer aware of the suffering of the lost boys and inspires them to act. This is ethical because it's making a difference by creating awareness for everyone so that they will take action.

Culture Shock

Getting used to and assimilating into a different culture is something Peter and Santino had to do. Peter was four years old when his village was attacked by the .He was separated from his mother and siblings but his father was still there, who he remained with. His father died on him a few days into their treachoruos adventure to asylum. Peter was strong though, and by pushing on and reaching a refugee camp in Ethiopia he had tremendous strength. After living at the refugee camp for 11 years Peter was carefully chosen to go to make a new life for himself in America. While in Africa Peter thought going to America would be like living in heaven however when Peter arrived in America he found himself feeling depressed because the first place he lived in Houston, Texas was not supporting him enough. He wanted to make a difference by getting an education and sending money back to Sudan. So he traveled to Kansas in the hopes of more help and maybe an education. When Peter arrived in Kansas he did find a more generous community and find a school he could attend. The community was very different than the one in Texas and he soon found himself being involved in the community. But there was still many forms of racism that made assimilation into the American society difficult. Some reasons include social gestures, culture, religion, and racism. In Sudan the lost boys probably spoke their dinka languages but in America, if you don't speak English only a small group of people will understand. They had trouble with this because if you cannot communicate you can not find work, make friends, understand the laws.In America a common stereotype of African Americans is that they are dumb and use their fists instead of words; Peter may play basketball well, but he also very works hard to survive in America and is getting educated in the hopes that one day he will be able to have a better life. When Peter first enrolled in his school his counselor thought that he would be stupid and fail all his classes however Peter surprised him by receiving a letter from the National Honor Society. There are also many differences between cultures, the best example of racial discrimination is when they are talking amongst themselves, they say, "the white people think just because we are black we want to hurt them" it is true many crimes have been committed by African Americans but the Lost Boys of Sudan work hard for their living and do not resort to crime; also at Peter's part time job at Wal Mart his boss said they were from Africa so they could take the heat. Peter also realized the difference in social class between him and his friends Peter feels he is poor because all the children he hangs out with have parents who provide for them however he only has himself therefore he feels different and in this case different means poor. Peter is enrolled as a student at Green Mountain College in Vermont with a scholarship.

Portia in the Garden

My partner Ken and I, are presenting a scene where Portia is arguing with Brutus. Portia wants Brutus to tell him the plot to kill Caesar, and thinks that he can't trust her. Portia stabs herself in the leg to ensure that Brutus can trust her. The significant of this passage is that Portia is a determined and strong wife because she keeps pressing Brutus to tell her. Portia refers to about the gender difference. Portia thinks that Brutus isn't telling her because she is but a woman. But in the end Brutus acknowledges that Portia is a good wife and worthy of trust, to only to stop her from continuing to inflict pain on her body. This show that later on in the story, Brutus would start to acknowledge Portia more by trusting her and allowing her to know of what is happening with Brutus.

Act 2 scene 1

Brutus lines
(lines 288-290)
"You are my true and honorable wife,
As dear to me as are the ruddy drops
That visit my sad heart."

Portia lines (lines 291-302)
"If this were true, then should I know this secret.
I grant I am a woman; but withal
A women that Lord Brutus took to wife;
I grant I am a woman; but withal
A woman well reputed, Cato's daughter
Think you I am no stronger than my sex,
Being so father'd, and so husbaded?
Tell me your counsels, I will not disclose 'em
I have made a strong proof of my constancy
Giving myself a voluntary wound
Here, in the thigh: can I bear that with patience,
And not my husband’s secrets?

Brutus lines (lines 303-309)
O ye gods,
Render me worthy of this noble wife!
Hark, hark! One knocks. Portia, go in awhile;
And by and by thy bosom shall partake
The secrets of my heart.
All my engagements I will construe to thee,
All the charactery of my sad brows.
Leave me with haste.
